Whether you have little ones who want to charge through the grass, older children who want to explore the woods or teenagers who want Wi-Fi and movies, at Tynrhyd there are plenty of things to do in Mid Wales. 

Take nature walks around the estate; a peaceful paradise in 13 acres of unspoilt meadows and woodland. Its the perfect family escape to pull on your boots, get back to nature and have some adventures in the fresh air.  

In a safe environment enjoy precious family time play hide and seek, fly a kite, break out the croquet or have a kick about. A family barbecue on the patio is the perfect way to finish exploring and start star gazing, together.

The space and size is perfect to gather different family generations together. Escape to the swim/spa hot tub when you need some time out; or sit back and enjoy the stunning scenery as your children run, whoop and play games.

The Games Room is an indoor haven for family tournaments of American pool, table tennis as well as board games for family entertainment.

Steam Train Adventures

Vale of Rheidol Railway - hop aboard 5 minutes away and take a narrow-gauge steam train adventure to Aberystwyth. The train hugs exciting contours, taking you through stunning rugged mountains and beautiful meadows to the sea. Choo Choo! 

Attractions and Days Out

Silver Mountain Experience – Steeped in ancient myths, loved by teenagers, tots and families. Tours, trail quizzes, a museum, play areas, gold panning and a café onsite. Guests at Tynrhyd have an exclusive 20% discount on admission to the Silver Mountain Experience only 5 minutes away by car!     

Magic Life of Butterfly House – See some of the largest butterflies in the world.  

Fantasy Farm Park – Visit a family run farm with animal barn, funhouse, outdoor play area, restaurant and shop. 

King Arthur’s Labyrinth, Machynlleth Learn about the legends of King Arthur, try an underground experience with short boat trip, storytelling and mine tour.  

Watch hundreds of Red Kites!

At Bwlch Nant yr Arian, 150 – 200 red kites feed daily making this a unique and magical experience. Onsite there’s a toddler’s play area, puzzle trail for youngsters, two adventure play grounds, visitor centre and café.  There are all ability trails, walking and cycling paths and bridleway. Many trails follow ancient paths and there is a hill fort.

There are over 20 fabulous beaches ready for you to explore within a short driving distance of Tynrhyd! Build sandcastles, go swimming, try surfing or some good old-fashioned rock pooling! In 2019, five Ceredigion beaches were awarded blue flag status!

Here are some of our visiting families’ top picks!

·       Aberystwyth North Beach - Close to town, the dark sand and shingle beach has Blue Flag and Seaside Awards.  Theres entertainment at the bandstand and traditional seaside treats including crazy golf and amusements at the Victorian Pier. Beach is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards during the summer. (12 miles)

·         Aberystwyth South Beach - A sheltered sand and shingle Seaside Award winning beach, patrolled by RNLI lifeguards during the summer. Part of it is a great favourite for experienced surfers and body boarding. Fishing trips are available during the summer. (12 miles)

·         Clarach Beach This lovely sheltered cove is a Seaside Award winner, sheltered by steep cliffs, where the Ceredigion Coast Path extends in both directions. (17 miles)

·         Ynyslas Beach  – 3 miles of fabulous golden beach, sand dunes and part of the Dyfi National Nature Reserve. During summer the dunes naturally transform into a vivid carpet of wild flowers. A local secret.. ssshh! (20 miles)

·         Borth Beach Blue Flag and Seaside Award winning glorious 3 miles of sandy beach loved by families. A rare spectacle at the northern end, exposed at low tide, is an ancient sunken forest. (20 Miles)

Constitution Hill

Ride the cliff railway to the summit of Constitution Hill (known locally as Consti) in Aberystwyth. Youll find a café, shop and childrens entertainment including twin lane ten-pin bowling, air hockey, a 'frisbee golf' course and bouncy castle.  It's the perfect place to keep children entertained while you relax with a coffee and a cake. Dont forget the camera obscura which reflects 1000 square metres of land around Aberystwyth. On a clear day spot 26 mountain peaks covering most of Wales! (12 miles away)

Horse Riding

The Rheidol Riding Centre, 15 minutes away offers lessons and leisure riding through the Cambrian Mountains. Catering for children and adults, beginners and the more experienced. 

Dolphin Spotting

New Quay is dolphin central! Take an exciting dolphin spotting charter out to sea from one of companies in New Quay itself, just along the harbour from the Marine Centre. Or sit on the harbour wall with an ice cream and see if you can spot them playing.

At the Cardigan Bay Wildlife Marine Centre visitor centre, enjoy interactive displays about dolphins, seals, sea birds, geology of the area, pollution and sustainable fishing. Entry is free; theres also a rock pool aquarium and gift shop.  (1 hour)
